Agenda Item 1
Roger advised the MOA now has controlling interest in the Foundation. Documents have been filed with the IRS. The Foundation is now officially considered a non profit arm of the MOA.
The Foundation currently has four projects:
Camp GEARS |
Paul & Voni Glaves are the Program Chairs. Elizabeth Clark, a participant in Vermont, talked about her experience and the variety of topics they covered such as tech, maps, and GPS. Roger encouraged the participants to promote Camp Gears and stressed the importance of rider education. The Camp is not brand specific. Other ‘campers’ spoke about their personal benefits and rides. |
ERC Sponsorship |
Rick Ahlstrom is the Program Chair. Six full classes have been held with approximately 80 riders. In addition, one women-only course was held. Ray Zimmerman noted the Vermont 158 Fighter Wing provided the site for the training. Roger and Ray will present the Base Commander with a plaque in appreciation. |
Seasoned Rider Program |
The purpose of the program is to understand the effects of aging on riding skills. |
Awards For Motorcycle Excellence |
Corporate: For advancing the cause of motorcycle safety, lifestyle or technology. The award will be presented to Bob’s BMW this year at the closing ceremonies. Personal: The award will be given to Larry Grodsky posthumously and accepted by Larry’s girlfriend, Mary Ann at the closing ceremonies. |
The Foundation expects to do more now MOA and Foundation are working together. The Foundation is a tool to bring benefits to the global motorcycling community not just BMW.
Agenda Item 2
Larry Stonestreet advised those present that many corporations have ‘matching’ programs for their employees where they match the amount given to non profit organizations. Members should be encouraged to investigate this avenue for donations. Roger Wiles thanked Larry for his personal and corporate donations on behalf of the Board.
Randy Hone suggested clubs make donations from rally proceeds and challenge other clubs to do the same. Voni said the Kansas City Club had done the same in the past.
Clark Luster suggested your financial planner can help you personally with leaving a legacy.
Agenda Item 3
Nominations of incoming board. In a telephone conference call July 6, 2006, the following people were nominated:
New members: Paul Glaves, Jean Copas, Gray Buckley, Jackie Hughes, Emerson Goodwin.
Board has accepted these nominees unanimously.
Paul Glaves – President; Bradford Benn – Vice President; Jean Copas – Secretary Treasurer.
They will join Deb Lower, Mark Austin, Bradford Benn, Randy Hone, and Larry Stonestreet.
Motion: To accept new board.
Proposed by Greg Feeler
Seconded by Mark Austin
New board accepted.
Roger recognized Deb Lower and Clark Luster and thanked them for their contributions.
Fund raising is the chief mission for the incoming board.
We need to increase awareness of the Foundation and expand Camp Gears. The MOA will provide guidance and the Foundation will attend to the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the details.
Dave Swider, President of BMWMOA, stated that through the Foundation we have an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for motorcycling, not just BMW. He also acknowledged the work of Paul and Voni Glaves with Camp Gears and Clark Luster gave credit to Ray Zimmerman for the original idea. Roger thanked Ray for his efforts in handling the “merger” of the BMW MOA and the Foundation. Roger Wiles strong and capable leadership of the Foundation was acknowledged and applauded.
