Thank you for your interest in the BMW MOA Foundation’s monthly motorcycling safety column, ‘MotoSafe.’ MotoSafe is a regular feature of the BMW MOA’s monthly club magazine, the ‘Owners News’ (ON), and is sponsored by the BMW MOA Foundation, a not-for-profit public educational foundation. MotoSafe will present responsible viewpoints on safer, more effective and technically-correct correct motorcycle operations and mental strategies, and is intended to provoke thought and discussion on such topics among the moto-community at large
MotoSafe eagerly welcomes submissions from qualified motorcycle-safety professionals, including active Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoaches (MSF) who maintain current MSF certifications and are actively instructing, Instructors from states that use curricula other than that supplied by the MSF, Instructors from countries outside the US, and training professionals who operate commercial, licensed motorcycle training schools and track-day events. Other professionals with credentials that qualify such a person to comment on motorcycle-safety issues will be considered, as well. Those wishing to submit are asked to include a brief professional resume, including RC numbers (or equivalent), name and address of schools which you may operate or where they may teach, and actual teaching and riding experience.
MotoSafe submissions should be submitted in MS Word or Rich Text Format (*.rtf). Manuscripts should be double-spaced; length should not exceed 1,500 words; if graphics or photos are submitted, the submission will need to be correspondingly shorter. Serialized submissions MAY be considered, with a maximum of three installments being permitted. Serialized submissions MUST be serialized in the original copy, including introductions, and teasers for forthcoming installments. Serialized submissions must be approved in advance of submission – write to us about your proposed submission before beginning work on a serialized piece.
Graphics and photos must meet the published ON submission guidelines (http://www.bmwmoa.org/ownersnews/guidelines.htm). The guidelines and concepts for editorial submissions found at this location are quite valuable; please review these.
MotoSafe column submissions should focus on a specific idea, skill, technique, mental strategy or practice. Keep the theme and content focused! Avoid wide-ranging general discussions. Keep the useful ‘W5H’ (Who, What, Where, Why, When, How) concept in mind when organizing your submission. Topics may include those directed to the new rider, or those advanced skills and strategies that can be meaningful to the skilled and experienced rider.
Submissions will be reviewed for content, accuracy, appropriateness and style. MotoSafe reserves the right to return a submission with a request for additional information, revision, deletions or modifications, in an attempt to promulgate only clear and accurate information to MotoSafe readers. MotoSafe reserves the right to regretfully reject a submission.
