Camp GEARS 2008

Camp GEARS Coming to Cam-Plex in Gillette, Wyoming

The BMW MOA Foundation will again be sponsoring Camp GEARS (Gaining Early Advanced Riding Skills) for young riders, ages 16 through 26, just before the BMW MOA International Rally in Gillette, Wyoming. Camp GEARS is conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday immediately preceding the rally which starts on Thursday. Camp GEARS is both a training and social experience for young riders with varying backgrounds and riding experience. Previous GEARS campers have had riding experience ranging from several years, down to one or two days. All that is required is a proper motorcycle endorsement to legally operate a motorcycle. Having a motorcycle on site and at the rally adds to the fun but isn't actually required, and it doesn't need to be a BMW either.
In previous years sessions have included basic mechanics, trip planning, riding proficiency, packing systems, and a lot more.

Camp GEARS has typically been attended by more than a dozen young riders, with almost as many different instructors over the two day camp. There is room for many more campers. This is a great opportunity for young riders to gain some valuable knowledge. And it is a great opportunity to meet many other young riders. This makes the following days at the rally more enjoyable. In prior years many of the riders who met at Camp GEARS have stayed in touch and remain friends.

Camp GEARS will be held on the Rally Grounds starting Tuesday, July 15th. Parents or other adults who are accompanying a GEARS camper will be allowed on the rally grounds too. Recent graduates will be organizing and supervising many of the activities. We are lining up many interesting and knowledgeable people to assist with the camp.

There is no chare for this program, in addition the BMW MOA Foundation will sponsor the Camp GEARS attendees entry into the International Rally.
